At the start of quarantine, I was feeling listless and detached from the mundane ongoings of my daily life. During this time, my sister introduced me to a style of silent vlogs which are popular in Korea and Japan, where all of the commentary in the video is delivered through captions at the bottom of the video. Many of these videos focus on daily life and finding joy in slow and quiet living. While I did not have any experience filming or video editing myself, I was fascinated by this style of content that made everyday life feel so compelling and full.
The first video I published was a love letter of sorts to the Instagram artist Peanutdraws who made a calendar featuring art of one of my favorite shows, Mob Psycho 100. I have always been a stationery collector, so filming this genre of content felt quite natural to me. After publishing this video, the creator of the calendar responded to my instagram post remarking how happy it made them to see my video. And with that, I was hooked.
As I continued to produce content, I felt constrained by my stationery focus and decided to transition to silent daily vlog content. Despite aligning myself with a peaceful aesthetic, I try to mix chaotic humor into my videos. While I enjoy crafting beautiful, romanticized moments of living, I have the most fun breaking that mold within the same video. By relishing in the clumsy, confused, and borderline cursed moments I catch on camera, I hope to give my videos their own unique flavor.
